Hard Work & the Hard Worker

Check out our CEO Boland Jones in the NY Times telling the story of how he started out in business. The article definitely captures what is important to him: his family and hard work. And it’s a great reminder of how things are built over time. PGi is about to celebrate its 20th anniversary yet when Boland started the company in the early 90s, he had worked at many other ventures. His work ethic and drive are the reason that PGi sells and services audio, web and video conferencing solutions to the most discriminating buyers of technology in the world. Give it a read.

PGi in the Community: Rose Brooks Center – Kansas City

While PGi is all about energizing connections around the globe and in the office, through products such as iMeet and GlobalMeet, we also realize the importance of forging connections within the community. This commitment to community is why PGi KS we’ll be volunteering with the Rose Brooks Center this summer and fall.

Since Rosa Brooks opened her Kansas City home as a safe house for domestic abuse victims in 1979, the Rose Brooks Center has expanded to an emergency shelter for up to 75 women and children. The Rose Brooks Center is committed to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and providing comprehensive care to those affected by it. Prevention programming, crisis intervention, life skills development and supportive and therapeutic services are just a few of the ways in which those at Rose Brooks are striving to make a difference.

Turn on Your Listening Ears!

Customer Service. Everyone claims to have it but what does it look like? For PGi, it involves a lot of listening. Every day we’re listening to our customers, and that often includes using social media tools. Although tools like Twitter and Facebook are great ways to know what your customers are saying about you, they lack ongoing personal dialogue. Recently, I’ve found a new way of listening to our clients that has made our entire support organization feel more personally connected to them.

Enough of Cost-Cutting Already: It’s Time To Sell More, Faster

How you can increase operational efficiency, launch sales productivity, and generate warm leads with online video conferencing solutions like PGi’s newest tool, iMeet.

Over the last several years, companies have hunkered down to survive the recession, reducing costs and making so-called strategic investments in operational efficiency. Don’t get me wrong; I’m not knocking productivity. But I have to wonder, why all of these strategic investments haven’t translated to improved sales results.

Almost 1,200 applications on the Salesforce App Exchange alone promise to remove operational roadblocks and jumpstart the sales cycle – yet we’ve seen no annual increase in the number of reps who meet quota, and sales forecasts are still inaccurate roughly 50% of the time. I don’t know about you, but this does not add up for me.

But faulty math is not to blame here – the culprit is the focus. I say, enough of cost-cutting. If the results of your productivity tools don’t far outweigh their cost savings… well then, put the human back in the equation. You’ve got bigger fish to fry (and sell!).

Because your business is to drive revenue.

When it comes to security, seeing is believing

Security is a vital factor when any company considers a new communications solution. Cybercrime costs over $1 Trillion globally in lost assets, leaked research and hacked customer information.  Due to cyber-attacks and unforeseen accidents (like a lost company laptop), companies must crack down to ensure every solution, from email to video meetings solutions, fits their security criteria.

Meetings are the lifeblood of modern business – they are where critical relationships are secured, investment plans are finalized and innovation finds its voice. The globalization of commerce makes virtual meetings a vital component of formulating business strategy. But security must be bullet-proof to give companies the confidence they need to freely collaborate, strategize and invent in a virtual setting.

iMeet Hanging at the ‘Most Creative People in Business’ Event

Some of the PGi and iMeet team were fortunate enough to be present at Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business event which was – frankly – amazing and inspiring. And fodder for this blog. Here is my recap:

You should be following @baratunde. Follow him now. He is funny. And serious. And seriously funny. And he used the world mocial = mobile + social. I like people who make up words.

Getting Social with Investor Relations

Before joining PGi in 2003, I spent twelve years in various Wall Street careers. While managing a long-short equity hedge fund during the market meltdown in 2000-02, I learned first-hand the vital importance of timely information in doing my job. And the bar is even higher for investment professionals today. Markets are crazy. Traders act first, think later. People are overworked. And with all the new corporate disclosure rules, there is more information to sift through than ever before.

Not surprisingly, there is often a direct correlation between company information and stock prices. And for investors, access to timely, relevant – fairly disclosed – information provides a razor-thin competitive edge. As an investor relations professional, I spend a significant part of my time telling the PGi story to the investor community. And it’s part of my job to help them sift through the massive amount of information in order to discover insights about PGi that are relevant to their investment in our company.

Like Father’s Day, Like Son… How I’ll Be Using Video Conferencing In A New Way This Weekend

Sometimes I’m so passionate about the value iMeet brings to companies that I don’t get a chance to reflect on how valuable it has become in my personal life.

On May 24th of this year, my son was born, and it was the best day of my life. Chase James McCormick. I have always been told that having a child would change my life, but it didn’t sink in until I saw the little guy.

Unfortunately, my wife’s family lives in Southern California, so they couldn’t be with us in Atlanta on the big day. But in comes iMeet to the rescue. I set up my laptop next to the hospital bed, and the next thing you know, our entire family is in my room seeing Chase for the very first time. It was such a special moment for my wife and our family.
