Ciao and greetings from our Milan office! After two weeks on the road, scavenging for Wi-Fi in coffee shops, cafes, McDonald’s, hotel lobbies and rest stops, I couldn’t be happier to be in an office again.
While I was en route from Norway to Milan I took part in a true Digital Nomad experience. I was constantly on the go without an office to check into or a local to consult. All I had was my laptop and the closest Wi-Fi connection to keep me going. I quickly realized which of the tools in my tool belt were most valuable. And with my 10+ hour days spent working in cafes, I discovered the web worker’s rules of working in public work spaces.
Thanks to a recent GigaOm article in my RSS, I found an insightful infographic created by WorkSnug. WorkSnug, dedicated to helping mobile workers find “laptop friendly” work environments, surveyed 6,000+ Digital Nomads and came up with an official Coffee Shop Code of Conduct:

I particularly enjoyed the reference to the bandwidth hog and those who use VoIP without a headset. I might have to add “professional” dress to the list. I always try to look professional for fear of repelling future patrons.
What would you add to the Coffee Shop Code of Conduct?

Hi Cora! Thanks for sharing our Code of Conduct. We’re glad you enjoyed it – and had some of your own thoughts on the back of it. We hadn’t thought of professional dress! Does it also help put you in the right mindset for mobile working?
Absolutely! Some of my best work is put forward when I’m feeling confident in my appearance, even if my Barista is the only person who recognizes. And suit jacket not required. Sometimes it’s as simple as a nice pair of shoes or some time with a blow dryer. Whatever makes you feel empowered.
Looking forward to finding my next work space via the WorkSnug app! Love what you guys are doing.
