Interesting topic. I think your 3 keys to thinking ... strike that ... to ACTING intrepreneurially are spot on. If I were to add a 4th, it would be to "embrace risk". Not necessarily to be risky, but to understand the risks inherent in the venture, to understand the executive team's appetite for risk and most importantly to understand the means for mitigating risk along the way. Although the media would like us to believe that the Pinterest investors risked $37.5M on an "overnight success" like gamblers at a roulette table, they didn't. Pinterest launched 4 years ago and went through 4 rounds of funding: bootstrapped in '08/'09, closed a $500K angel round in '10, secured a $10M Series A in Spring '11 and then a $27M Series B in Fall '11. Each round was subsequently larger than the last and each was dependent upon the team achieving specific milestones. As a result, they managed risk and created this 4 year "overnight success". Every intrapreneur will need to figure out how to structure their milestones, stage their investment and mange their "investor's" risk. Looking forward to similar posts ... Great post Blakely.
